A student pilot crashed a Cessna 152 last week at Gillespie Field in El Cajon. You can see the pictures below. Apparently it was the student pilot's second solo (so he probably had between 10-15 hours flight time) and while practicing his controlled crashes touch and gos.
The C152s gear collapsed and the prop struck the pavement, which sparked the fire. Somehow the pilot, in his 20s, was not hurt in the accident.
This would be classified as a flight instructors worst nightmare. I used to let my students solo and I would go hide in the hangar and just listen.

So was it his fault for the hard landing, or just a freak accident
hello there! This looks pretty horrible to me. The pilot was very lucky to escape. Did the fueltanks break open on him? How could he have avoided this? I just did my circuits that very week in a Cessna 152 in Dhaka. Its hard to grasp the exact ideal attitude of the aircraft and land the plane. A gust or crosswing makes matters worse. I have racked just 7 hours and I am wondering...
Ya... I flew a little bit in the C152 and I have a really hard time landing it. It feels like its going to break all the time. When i land that thing I flare for like 20 seconds before my gear touch the ground. I do have really smooth landing cause of this though! But its something I gotta work on...
Glad you weren't my instructor. You should have been there with a hand held to offer advice/assistance. If you couldn't watch then your student should not have flown solo.
This is why accidents like this happen...
hey cmon..accidents happen..
im doing my pilot training in Sydney.. a couple o months ago..we had a similar incident at our aerodrome.. a student doing his 4th solo with 10 knots XW came in for a touch n go in a Cessna 152..i don know wat he did..d nose wheel collapsed n d prop struck d tarmac n broke off.. d engine was displaced..d rest of d juselage n wings were intact.. d student was fine..a lil scared but fine..
d aircraft went in for repairs n returned to d flight line in 2 months..
as i was sayin..accidents like this r common in general aviation..
