Video: P-51 Mustang crashes in textbook accident

This is by far the best step-by-step video of an aircraft accident that I've seen in a long time. After a landing gear failure at the RAAF Base Williams, Point Cook, Victoria, Australia, this WWII Mustang brings it in with the CFA firefighters ready to roll. Very well produced, with excellent footage and analysis.

Thanks for posting the Mustang video on your blog and thanks for the comments.

The pilot was 70 years old (apparently a former commercial pilot with the now-defunct Australian / New Zealand passenger airline Ansett). He was taking another 70-year-old on a birthday joy flight paid for by his family.

The aircraft owner joked that he would be charging double as he got to spend extra time in the air as they used up fuel.

The passenger said he'd been in worse car crashes!

Thanks again. Great site.
